Sharpening Revisted - New Tricks

.

Lots of carvers struggle with sharpening, so this program will tackle the topic by reviewing two new products and looking at some foundational skills. We hope there will be information to help beginners and experienced alike. Roger Crooks will review and demonstrate WorkSharp's Ken Onion Elite sharpener, which works with both knives and gouges. He will also review and demonstrate a measuring fixture using the Bess scale of sharpness using the device pictured and a digital scale.

We'll also review some underlying principles, look at wooden edge models given to us by expert sharpener Dave Dignam of California, and look at a few of the systems owned by the club.

We hope that those more advanced will share their methods and that beginners will bring their questions. There is a good chance that blacksmith and carver, George Blackman, will be able to join us and describe his latest approaches with belt-driven sanding systems.

If you have questions, send an email to lpwade@gmail.com

Please register in case of changes and to receive program handouts.
